In order to improve their performance, athletes often use dietary supplements in the pre-workout phase so that the body has the energy needed to sustain physical and mental effort, while neglecting integration in the post-workout phase. On the other hand, the muscle recovery phase is as important as the stimulus phase and plays a fundamental role in improving the subsequent performance. Exercise, whether aerobic or anaerobic, uses muscle glycogen for glucose production and stimulates the oxidation of proteins and other substrates to provide ATP for muscle contraction. - Carbohydrates that play a fundamental role in post-workout muscle recovery as they restore glycogen reserves and stimulate the activity of insulin, a hormone known to have anti-catabolic effects in favour of protein synthesis. SPORT RECOVERY+ contains two sources of carbohydrates: glucose or dextrose , a very common monosaccharide and the main energy substrate for our body, and maltodextrins: polymer chains of different lengths, made up of glucose molecules, and obtained through controlled digestion of corn starch.
- Essential amino acids (Ajipure®) including BCAAs: the intake of amino acids in the post-workout has been shown to stimulate protein synthesis and the release of anabolic hormones. For example, leucine is directly involved in the production of muscle proteins (directly stimulating mTOR) and is among the promoters of the release of growth hormone (GH) and insulin.
- Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that can be synthesized by our body, mainly in muscle tissue starting from the arginine, ornithine and proline amino acids. It constitutes 60-65% of all amino acids present in the skeletal muscle. Glutamine is an amino acid that participates in various physiological reactions: it is directly involved in protein synthesis and has anti-catabolic properties; it has a detoxifying action, is useful in the disposal of post-workout toxins, as it promotes the formation of gamma butyric acid and glutathione (powerful endogenous antioxidant) and finally improves hydration and promotes the passage of nutrients into muscle cells, facilitating the biochemical and anabolic processes that take place in these cells.
- β-Hydroxy-β-Methylbutyrate (HMB) is a substance derived from leucine. Its main activity is anti-catabolic, the HMB counteracts the muscle proteolysis induced by intense exercise, preventing muscle proteins from degrading. This helps to limit muscle damage, increase endurance and reduce pain, thus promoting muscle recovery after physical activity.
Finally SPORT RECOVERY+ contains vitamin C and magnesium which contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, vitamin B6 which, together with amino acids and carbohydrates, contributes to the normal metabolism of proteins and glycogen, potassium and creatine.
